Beach weekend

We spent a lovely weekend with our friends in Bethany beach. The rain never materialized on Saturday, so we went kayaking in a lovely and wind protected bay. The partly cloudy skies, wind and colorful trees made a nice expedition.

Getting ready...

Lunch stop: it was warm and sunny so we took naps on the dock.

Views from Anna's boat.

On Sunday we went to Cape Henlopen (it's been many, many years since we've been here). We had a nice picnic and walked the beach before heading home. It was cool and quite windy, so Bob made use of my Buff, turning it into a silly yet effective hat.

It's hard to tell, because there's nothing for scale, but this praying mantis was huge!

Ridin' in the Rain

Anna finally got to test out the fenders on her Fuji on a short ride in the rain. We had a grand old time splashing through puddles, enjoying the misty Potomac River and soaking in the very bright maple leaves at Fort Hunt Park.

Bob has a way of finding miscellaneous things and bringing them along for the ride. This safety cone was particularly useful on this ride, since I'm sure most drivers aren't expecting anyone to be out riding a bike in the rain. You can never be too visible with all the distracted driving going on, not to mention the rain...

Family and Pig

This past weekend my oldest brother, Alan, was in town for his 40th high school reunion in Arlington. It was awesome to see him -- it's been 4 or 5 years.

We went to Arlington Cemetery to visit our brother's grave. He was just a year older than Alan and I was only 12 when he died. It was actually nice to be there and share little bits of our very different memories of him.

Also this weekend, Stan hosted a pig roast for his neighbors, his way of thanking them for all of their help and support while Sylvia was sick. His neighbors are fantastic, and know how to party! And the pig was very yummy, too...

Don't be alarmed: Jonathan isn't drinking that beer, he's just holding it for his dad.

Bungalow Tables

Here is the latest creation to come out of Bob's brain, hands and workshop: a set of beautiful Bungalow-style end tables, inspired by Thos Moser. They are made of solid cherry and have some amazing grain patterns. The arch, beveled top, reversed-tapered legs, and details at the top of legs make these by far the most complex design Bob has built.

Nice dovetails!
