Life's little pleasures

We took Sylvia out on a very nice "picnic" to Fort Hunt Park. The weather was perfect: sunny, slight breeze, not too hot, and no bugs. We went after lunch, so the picnic consisted of snacking on oranges.

It was a group effort, with Stan making a ramp for the van and Bob, Anna and Dean (the aide) getting her down the stairs of the house, down the front stoop, and into the van. Well worth the effort to see Sylvia enjoy a few hours away from the house.

Sun!

We've had one heck of a stretch of rain lately. We could've grown rice in the backyard! When the sun broke out we decided to hike around at Great Falls. It had been raining for about 10 days, and we knew the river level was quite high. Here is the falls, or what is left of it. The first drop of the falls is just a big, gnarly rapid, and the other two drops are completely washed out! It's cool to be able to see Great Falls many times a year, under various conditions. Here is a video clip:

We went kayaking another day and saw many osprey (with nests that were literally at water level, quite strange), noisy geese, red-winged blackbirds and at least 10 turtles. We kayaked through the marsh up to where the bike path crosses.

Bob's aunt Mary has been visiting from Guatemala to help out with Bob's mom. Here is Mary, Sylvia, Stan and Bob on Mother's Day.

Another Bob Carts woodworking creation....

This is a Greene and Greene inspired desk, still in the building process, to replace the cheapo Ikea desk Anna has been using. It is solid cherry with walnut accents. More photos to come when the desk is completed!
